In the first six months of the current financial year, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) handled 34.12 million tonne of cargo. This is an increase of 33.13 per cent compared to 25.63 million tonne last year and is also 7.53 per cent higher over the target fixed for the period.
The port said that with this feat, Paradip Port has retained achieving the second-highest position in terms of cargo handled and also in terms of percentage of growth in traffic among all the major ports till the end of September.
During this six months, the robust increase in iron ore exports propelled the cargo growth of the port.
In the port, iron ore traffic registered a growth of a staggering 144.42 per cent during the first half of the fiscal. The thermal coal traffic has exhibited a growth of 46.82 per cent.
