The collaboration will ensure that materials used in RDSS projects meet prescribed standards, strengthening reliability and efficiency across India’s power distribution network.

REC Ltd, a leading government-owned power sector financier, has signed an MoU with the Electrical Research and Development Association (ERDA), an independent testing and certification body, to strengthen quality testing and assurance mechanisms for materials deployed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

The MoU was signed by Prabhat Kumar Singh, Executive Director of RDSS, REC, and Brijesh Sachdeva, Head, ERDA North, in the presence of Prince Dhawan, Executive Director of Projects Management Division (PMD), REC, along with senior officials from both organisations.

“The partnership reinforces REC’s commitment towards supporting quality infrastructure development and strengthening the implementation of power sector reforms under RDSS,” the Maharatna firm said in a statement on Thursday.

The RDSS scheme, launched by the Ministry of Power, seeks to modernise India’s distribution sector by reducing aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring reliable power supply to consumers. It also focuses on smart metering, system strengthening, and the financial sustainability of distribution companies.

Under the agreement, REC and ERDA will collaborate on third‑party quality testing of materials used in RDSS projects, provide technical support, undertake capacity‑building initiatives, and develop robust quality assurance frameworks. The collaboration aims to ensure that materials deployed in RDSS projects conform to prescribed standards and contribute to enhanced operational reliability and efficiency of India’s power distribution network.
