The Madhya Pradesh government has been sanctioned Rs 1,780 crore by the Union Government for construction of 1,521 new roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).
The State Panchayat & Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava stated that efforts were underway for development of transport facilities in remote areas of the state. With the construction of the newly sanctioned roads under the PMGSY, 2,025 villages with up to 500 population, 1,278 villages with above 250 population and 340 habitats with below 250 population will be connected with all-weather roads.
Following the construction of the roads, 1,600 habitats will be linked by all-weather roads with development block, tehsil and district levels. The Minister said that construction of 51,000 kilometer long 11,000 roads has been completed so far at a cost of Rs 514 crore. As a result, 5,948 villages above 1,000 population and 6,420 villages up to 500 population have been connected with all-weather roads.
Roads under the scheme are also being constructed with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank.
