The Planning Commission is firming up a proposal for setting up a Cabinet committee on transport. A decision will be taken only by the new Planning Commission, which will be constituted after the April-May general elections. The proposal is partly based on the recommendations of the National Transport Development Policy Committee, chaired by Rakesh Mohan.

Seeking Revival

Panel to review on coal linkages
An inter-ministerial panel will meet on 19 February to review the status of existing coal supply arrangements to the power and other sectors. The Cabinet Committee on Investment had earlier said timelines for signing fuel supply pacts for power projects of 78,000 MW capacity should be met.

Panel clears Master List
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved the framework for using the harmonised Master List of infrastructure sub-sectors.Harmonisation of the existing definitions of infrastructure sectors will facilitate a coordinated approach, among agencies providing support to infrastructure, and thus spur infrastructure development.
Rs 19,000 cr for J&K rail line
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved additional Rs19,000 crore towards completion of the Jammu-Baramulla rail link project In Jammu & Kashmir. The links between Jammu-Udhampur and Qazigund-Baramulla are operational while Udhampur-Katra is to be started in the near future.
Govt clears Kandla bulk terminal
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure cleared the proposal of Kandla Port Trust to develop a separate dry bulk terminal, equipped with top technology and mechanisation, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,060 crore on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.
Enam Infra Fund to invest Rs 3,700 crore in infra
The cabinet committee on economic affairs cleared the investment proposal of Enam India Infrastructure, a Mauritius-based venture capital fund, to invest Rs 3,700 crore in India’s infrastructure and energy projects through a dedicated core sector fund.
