The 127 civic bodies in West Bengal were allocated Rs 157 crore by the State government for repair of major roads in the state. The allocation is keeping in view of the ensuing Durgapuja in the state. Kolkata Municipal Corporation is also included in the civic bodies for the allocation.

Resurfacing to 15 roads in Nashik
In Nashik city, 15 major roads will be resurfaced soon. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on August 22 approved a proposal in this regard. The NMC had proposed to resurface the 15 roads after the monsoon and has finalised private contractors for the road work. NMC Standing committee chairman Ramesh Dhongade said that the committee approved the proposal to resurface the 15 roads at a cost of around Rs 14 crore.
BMC to concretise major roads in Mumbai
The master plan of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to concretise major roads in the city and then lay asphalt on them is under preparation. This will involve road tendering contracts worth Rs 7,000 crore over the next four years. The size of each road contract is likely to be raised to Rs 300 crore from Rs 165 crore so far.
Kolkata’s roads to get new names
Kolkata's major roads will be named after prominent personalities and luminaries. The road renaming committee of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has finalised the names which will be announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. While in the north, the stretch between Chitpore bridge till Cossipore Road (No.56) will be named as Sri Ramakrishna Sarani, Lake Terrace, in the south, will take the name of Debabrata Biswas Sarani. Rs 1,200 cr for Mumbai’s road reconstruction
This year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will reconstruct roads in the city at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. It will invite tenders soon for the same. The civic body has allotted Rs 900 crore to reconstruct major roads and Rs 300 crore for minor roads. In a move to fix responsibility, BMC has appointed one engineer for each road.
Indore roads to get facelift at Rs 20 cr
By spending Rs 20 crore, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) will undertake beautification work of six major roads of the city. Tenders for the project have been floated. The cost of the project would be borne by the State government.
Delhi’s major roads to get dedicated emergency lanes
Indian capital city Delhi's almost all major roads will soon have a dedicated emergency lane and driving on them during the time of any disaster will be a punishable offence. The Delhi Government has identified 162 roads in which emergency lanes will be reserved on the extreme right for plying of ambulance, fire-tenders and other emergency services vehicles.
