With an outlay of Rs 1,773 for the year 2017û18, the government has set the ball rolling for the port sector. To promote port-led development in India, Rs 600 crore has already been allocated for the Sagarmala Programme.

Digital economy critical to make govt services accessible to remote area | DIPP
Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India, has emphasised that the digital economy is critical for India to make government services and welfare benefits accessible to remote areas of the country seamlessly.
Committees on digital payments submit recommendations
A committee had been constituted by the Department of Economic Affairs, under the Chairmanship of Ratan P Watal, former Finance Secretary and Principal Adviser, Niti Aayog, in August 2016 to review medium term measures necessary to promote digital payment systems in the country. This Committee on Digital Payments has recommended structural reforms in the payment ecosystem, including amendments to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

Auto manufacturing will be main driver of ‘Make in India’ initiative
Girish Shankar, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises has said that the Government of India aims to make automobiles manufacturing the main driver of ‘Make in India’ initiative, as it expects the passenger vehicles market to reach 9.4 million units by 2026, as highlighted in the Auto Mission Plan (AMP) 2016-26.
´Port investments can add 1.4% to GDP growth´
Investments in setting up ports and large industrial cities near them can help push economic growth by up to 1.4 percentage points, Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has said.

The government has appointed Amitabh Kant, Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), as full-time Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog. Kant, who has been helming some of the marquee initiatives of the Narendra Modi Government, will take over the job after his retirement as secretary in February end.
