Karnataka gets Rs 1,299 cr to construct rural roads
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the Union government has sanctioned Rs 1,299 crore to Karnataka to build rural roads. This has been conveyed by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
PMGSY helps to develop rural economy
In the year 2000, the Union government launched the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to connect IndiaÂ’s smaller villages to nearby towns, all through the country. The ministry of rural development has been in charge of the scheme, with the Planning Commission playing its usual role.
Upgradation of Shahkot-Punia road begins
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Punjab mandi board has initiated the process to upgrade the Shahkot-Punia link road. A road stretch of 10.25-km is being upgraded under the scheme and widened to 33 feet from existing 22 feet.
Arunachal road projects
To improve road connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh, the Union government has approved a network of roads and bridges at a cost of Rs 819 crore. The Union Rural Development Ministry's decision in this regard comes just ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Beijing and it emphasises the strategic importance of the bordering state over parts of which China lays claim.
Maha gets nod for Rs 354 cr worth road works
The Union government has approved proposals for roads worth Rs 354 crore in Maharashtra to improve its infrastructure works. The road works will be funded under the Centre's flagship Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
