Kerala mulls light Metro in place of monorail

Global Cloud Xchange (GCX), the submarine cable unit of Reliance Communications (RCom), has commenced work on a submarine cable linking Mumbai to Singapore. The cable system will incur a total investment of $200 million (about Rs 1,200 crore).

Deora for cabotage exemption for Vizhinjam port
The Union Minister of State for Shipping Milind Murali Deora has said in Thiruvananthapuram recently that there is a strong case for granting cabotage exemption for Vizhinjam port. The demand for exemption requested by the Kerala government is justifiable, however the views of Indian National Ship Owners Association and other stakeholders will have to be taken into consideration, he added.
Poor compensation affects road plans in Kerala
A conference has found that the colonial Land Acquisition Act 1894, poor compensation for evictees and lack of transparency have burdened Kerala’s development, including road widening. The findings of last year’s ‘Infrastructure Conference’ in Kochi, was released in Thiruvananthapuram on November 8 by the State Water Resources Minister PJ Joseph.
Minister for 70-metre roads in Kerala
Keeping in view of the population density in Kerala, roads in the state should be extended to 70 metre width, said the State Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed in Thiruvananthapuram.
