World Bank inks loan pact for Gujarat road project
The World Bank and the government signed a loan pact under which the multi-lateral lending institution will provide $175 million to fund a second highways project in Gujarat.
Exim Bank PAC in Africa this year
Exim Bank will be setting up a project advisory company (PAC) in Africa this year. The PAC will essentially look to bring infrastructure projects in Africa to a bankable stage and facilitate exports from India to Africa. This is the first time Exim Bank is looking to set up a PAC and also the first time in Africa. Opportunities for infrastructure development in Africa are huge, with a World Bank study projecting the annual investment requirement in infrastructure at $90 billion.
Rajasthan project gets WB fund
The World Bank (WB) has funded Rs 1,362 crore for modernisation of roads which includes rural road connectivity programme. In this, 1,056 revenue villages having population 250-499 (as per census 2001) in 21 districts shall be connected by all-weather roads in Rajasthan. The major components of the projects are road section modernisation and performance enhancement.
MoU signed for mega road project
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Rajasthan state government and the World Bank for road projects that connect 1,056 identified villages with an assistance of Rs 1,200 crore from the World Bank. The state PWD Minister Yunus Khan said notice inviting tenders would be issued soon and work would begin in the next 60 days.
India expects World Bank’s GIF to be ready by April
For its proposed Global Infrastructure Facility (GIF) that will finance core projects in emerging economies like India, the World Bank is expected to finalise the GIF's shape by next April, says an official in India's Finance Ministry.
World Bank, ADB to give $313 mn to cyclone-hit Odisha
To take up restoration and rehabilitation activities in cyclone Phailin hit areas, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have assured a financial assistance of $313 million to Odisha government. Representatives of the two international funding agencies met the State Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the capital Bhubaneswar on November 13.
World Bank to continue concessional aid to India
Though India is no longer eligible for concessional development funds, the World Bank is working on a special dispensation to the country to maintain financial support to India. India receives the bulk of funds from the World Bank through International Development Association (IDA), the development bank's fund for the poorest, and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
World Bank keen to aid Mizoram road to link 2 countries
The World Bank has expressed interest to fund the Mizoram State Road Project Phase II (MSRP-II). The road project is aimed at boosting better link between Mizoram and its two neigbouring countries-Bangladesh and Myanmar.
