Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa, made a slew of announcements to promote road infrastructure in the state including two multi-lane flyovers at Medavakkam and Kilkattalai in Chennai and a subway in the southern stretch of the Inner Ring Road near Puzhuthivakkam to meet the growing demand of vehicular population.

She said the government was taking efforts to improve road infrastructure as it helped the states economic and agricultural growth, speedy travel, reduce fuel consumption, and improve safety of people.

She unveiled projects worth Rs 2,325.48 crore which included widening of 250 km highways in the expanded city limits of Chennai, besides improving pavements and drainage. Three high-level bridges will come up at Paruthipattu, Ramavaram and Nolambur and a foot overbridge near Tambaram Railway Station to give easy access to pedestrians crossing GST Road.
