The government is mulling ways of offering financial and other incentives in a bid to reduce fatalities on highways.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways plans to include safety parameters in contracts awarded to road builders, also known as concession agreements, and make them accountable for maintaining the stretches they operate. Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari has also given his go-ahead.
