275 MW New Wind Capacity added in Q1 2022

As per the data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India has added a wind power capacity of 275 MW in the first quarter of 2022, which represents a 30% increase on a quarterly basis, compared to 212 MW installed in the fourth quarter 2021, it brings the cumulative wind installations in India to 40.4 GW.

The installations on a yearly basis have decreased by 56% in comparison with the 623 MW in the first quarter of 2021.

Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have yet again continued to be the primary markets for wind energy, which sums up 72% of the total cumulative capacity.

Gujarat has led the group with a wind capacity of almost 202 MW added in the first quarter of 2022. The state accounts for 23% of the cumulative capacity having 9.2 GW total installations.

Karnataka had added a capacity of 54 MW in the quarter and secured the third position with 5.1 GW of wind installations which accounts for 13% of the total market share.

Tamil Nadu, being the first in cumulative installations, has added the other 20 MW capacity in the first quarter of 2022. The state of Tamil Nadu now has a total installed wind capacity of 9.9 GW, which accounts for 24% of the total market share.

Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka have accounted for the total installed capacity of 275 MW in the first quarter of 2022. The other states, which include Maharashtra, do not account for any installations during this quarter.
