Ramesh Chandak has been elected as President, Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA) for the year 2011-12. Chandak takes over from Vimal Mahendru, the outgoing president. Now he would hope to carry on the flag of ensuring domestic power equipment manufacturers get their due. IEEMA has been a strong supÂporter of imposing a duty on import of power equipment. It is interesting to note here that the Union Government is planning to impose duties on imports of Chinese power equipment, as Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel had called a meeting recently to discuss on this issue.
IEEMA is the apex association of Indian power equipment manÂufacturing industry with over 750 members having a combined annual turnover over $22 billion. Apart from heading KEC International, Chandak is also a member on the Management Board of the RPG Group. A Chartered Accountant by profession and widely regarded as the turnaround specialist, Chandak studied Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India recently awarded him the “CA Business Leader of the Year 2008”.
As an executive member of IEEMA, Chandak has already been part of the Organising Committee of Elecrama, the highly successful T&D Power & Allied Equipment Exhibition.
