Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu informed that the Union Oil and Gas Minister Veerappa Moily may take a decision on the extension of the deadline for beginning Adhaar-linked subsidy transfer scheme for LPG cylinders.
It may be recalled that oil marketing companies (OMCs) set February 15 as the deadline for providing LPG cylinders on subsidy based on Aadhaar cards. But only around 70 per cent of the people in the state have got enrolled in Aadhaar so far and so there is a need to extend the deadline, reports suggest.
Babu expressed hope that the February 15 deadline would be postponed by about six months so that the entire state was covered under the scheme.
It is learnt that the state Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy requested the central government to extend by at least two months the deadline for Aadhaar-linked subsidy cylinders in some parts of the state.
The Andhra Pradesh government assured the public that the delay in getting Aadhar cards would not come in the way of their getting cash transfer subsidies, including on LPG cylinders.
