Airlines operating out of Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport are opposing the new charges that have been imposed on them. High charges of software and data system in the new terminal building of the Kolkata airport have deterred airlines from operating. The charges have not been implemented till date but would be implemented once the airlines shift to the new terminal building and start operating flights from there.
The airlines have complained to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials that the revised price is too high. In protest, the Airport Operators Committee (AOC) had written a letter to the AAI requesting the organisation to reconsider the rates. Overall, there has been a rise in all rates. For example rentals of ticketing counters have gone up by 125 per cent, charges of housing and parking have gone up by 80 per cent and so on, said Sarvesh Gupta, Chairman of Airport Operators Committee.
In addition, the landing charges have also gone up. In case of domestic sector flights, the landing charges have gone up by 48 per cent and the landing charges have gone up by 115 per cent in case of international flights, Gupta said. The yield at Kolkata airport is low and along with it Kolkata is a price-sensitive market.
