Shreyas Shipping and Logistics Ltd would launch two new services from August 15 in order to connect Mundra-JNPT-Hazira and Kolkata-Vizag-Chennai-Kochi sectors.
With this, the Mumbai-based shipping firm would become the first company to link all key ports of India for containerised trade. Shreyas now has five vessels providing nation wide network.
The services would Vallarpadam terminal and Mundra, which are promoted as transshipment hubs ,besides helping in the domestic cargo movement, Capt VK Singh, CEO of Shreyas said.
The current north-south corridor handles around 3 percent containarised cargo by sea mode and with the proposed east-west corridor, Shreyas targets 5 percent containerized cargo shift to sea mode,’ Singh said.
There could be an annual saving of Rs 2,000 crore and a 6 percent cut in air pollution because of the diversion of 5 percent of cargo transportation to water borne mode.
This helps in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 29 gm per tonne per km compared with road transportation, he added.
During the quarter-ending June 2013, the firm posted 30 percent growth in turnover at Rs 113.10 crore. The net profit for the period stood at Rs 2.87 crore.
