Till the global economy shows signs of recovery, Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has no plans to order for new vessels. SCI is IndiaÂ’s national ocean carrier. Not just SCI all shipyards in India were facing the heat of slowdown in the shipping industry.

SCI has decided not to place any fresh orders due to recession. Once the situation consolidates sometime later, SCI may consider further acquisition to strengthen the fleet, SCI Director (Bulk Carrier & Tanker Division) Sunil Thapar said.

Thapar was in Visakhapatnam recently to receive Merchant Tanker Desh Shanti after her release from detention in Iran on charge of oil spillage.
