There is a further progress in the efforts of the Visakhapatnam Port to expand a satellite port near the 17th century Dutch township of Bheemunipatnam in the country’s east coast as Delhi-based consultant has come forward to submit a detailed feasibility report (DFR) on next month.
The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) wanted to establish the satellite port to de-congest traffic at its main port.
The satellite port, conceived for improvement on the lines of the Ennore Port near Chennai as a joint venture by the Government of India and Madras Port Trust, is likely to have a cargo handling capacity of 15 to 20 million tonne (mt).
