The highest loading of crude oil in the current financial year was achieved on September 21, in the vessel MT Abul Kalam Azad belonging to Shipping Corporation of India, at BPCL Liquid cargo Jetty. Responding to state-run ONGC´s request to allow maximum permissible quantity of crude oil, the vessel was given priority and berthed at 16:45 hrs on September 19. 67,349 mt of crude oil was loaded on the vessel with a sailing draft of 13.1 metres. The vessel sailed at 07:00 hrs on September 21. This is the highest quantity of crude oil loaded on a vessel in the current financial year. Separately, the port´s initiative to reduce congestion has also helped not only on the approach roads but also in each tractor terminal saving 7.5 km of extra run during each trip. This has helped the trade in savings of about Rs 2.86 crore till date since February 24, when the initiative started.
A third initiative also helped to reduce the inland container depot (ICD) pendency. After a meeting on August 17 with various stakeholders, chaired by Neeraj Bansal, Deputy Chairman, JNPT, measures taken reduced the pendency in August from about 12,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) to 9,140 TEUs as on September 21.
