The Maharashtra government has decided to challenge the National Green Tribunal´s decision to suspend the mandatory coastal clearance to the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), granted in 2013, in the Supreme Court.
The Green tribunal held that the state did not follow the procedure for CRZ clearance, and there were discrepancies in the amount of marine areas proposed to be affected due to the project.
The 22-kilometre sea link, costing upwards of Rs.11,000 crore, is meant to connect Navi Mumbai with Sewri and also develop large parts of Navi Mumbai.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has been pitching for this crucial infrastructure project, was left disappointed since the verdict can further push back the much-delayed MTHL project.
