118 projects of port modernisation, worth Rs.53,354 crore have been approved/awarded in the first five years of the 12th Five Year Plan. This is against 27 projects approved during the 11th Plan. Modernisation and upgrades of major ports is an ongoing process to keep them in tune with new technologies and meet trade requirements. Ports prepare perspective plans and annual plans in which modernisation schemes are incorporated.
