The company has partnered with Veolia as its technology provider to deploy advanced treatment processes and ensure high-quality water output.

Welspun Enterprises Ltd (WEL), the infrastructure and energy arm of Welspun World, has been awarded a water treatment plant contract valued at approximately ₹31.45 billion by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

WEL will design, build and operate the 910 million litres per day (MLD) plant at Panjrapur, Maharashtra. The scope includes civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works, along with a treated water sump and pumping station. The total contract value comprises an operation and maintenance component of around ₹11.56 billion and excludes a provisional sum of nearly ₹290 million.

The design-build phase is scheduled for completion within 48 months, following which WEL will operate and maintain the facility for 15 years.

Commenting on the achievement, BK Goenka, Chairman, Welspun World, said, “After completion of this project and the 2,000 MLD Bhandup water treatment plant, we will be treating nearly 70 per cent of Mumbai’s freshwater requirement. We are also making strong progress on the 418 MLD Dharavi wastewater treatment facility, which, along with our other water and tunnelling projects in Mumbai, will enhance water reuse, promote circularity and embody our guiding principles of green, growth and governance.”

In recent years, WEL has significantly expanded its presence in India’s water sector and is currently executing large-scale, technologically advanced infrastructure projects, including the 418 MLD wastewater treatment facility at Dharavi, Mumbai; the 2,000 MLD water treatment plant at Bhandup, Mumbai; the rural water supply project under the Central Government’s Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh; and the tertiary treated water conveyance tunnel project in Mumbai. Additionally, through its subsidiary, Welspun Michigan Engineers Ltd, WEL continues to strengthen its portfolio in urban water infrastructure and tunnelling projects across India.

Veolia as Partner

WEL has partnered with Veolia, a global leader in water management technologies, as its technology provider for this project. Together, WEL and Veolia aim to deploy advanced treatment processes and cutting-edge solutions to ensure high-quality water output.

Sandeep Garg, Managing Director, WEL, remarked, “With Mumbai’s rising demand for water driven by rapid urbanisation, the Panjrapur WTP will play a crucial role in strengthening the city’s water supply system. The water sector remains a key strategic focus for us, and this order synergises well with our overall growth strategy.”

The outstanding order book of WEL as of June 30 stood at approximately ₹119.62 billion on a standalone basis. With the addition of this order, the outstanding order book is now around ₹146.27 billion, excluding execution done in Q2 FY2026. Of this, approximately ₹113.51 billion is from the water vertical (including around ₹53.93 billion from operations and maintenance and asset replacement), around ₹18.95 billion from the newly added tunnel segment, and the balance ₹13.81 billion from the transportation vertical, excluding the road project bid for which the company is L1.

With this addition, the consolidated order book stands at approximately ₹163.30 billion, excluding execution in Q2 FY2026.
