Sembcorp Green Infra Pvt Ltd, the India-based renewable energy arm of Singapore-headquartered Sembcorp Industries, has been awarded a 150MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project by SJVN Ltd.

The award is part of SJVN’s first-of-its-kind 1,500MW / 6,000MWh tender for assured peak power from Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected renewable energy projects integrated with energy storage systems.

The tender’s 6,000 MWh capacity refers to the ability to dispatch 1,500MW of power continuously for four hours during peak demand periods. FDRE projects combine solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to deliver reliable, round-the-clock renewable power to distribution companies.

“This FDRE award marks a significant milestone in our journey to deliver reliable, clean energy solutions in India,” said A Nithyanand, CEO, Renewables Business, India, Sembcorp Industries. “With a secured development pipeline of over 4GW in solar and wind capacity, and more than 1.4GWh of BESS, Sembcorp is well placed to support India’s growing need for flexible and round-the-clock renewable power.”

To meet the contracted 150 MW FDRE capacity, Sembcorp will install approximately 750 MW of solar generation and battery storage. The project will be developed on a build-own-operate basis and is expected to achieve commercial operation within 24 months of signing a 25-year power purchase agreement with SJVN. It will be financed through a mix of internal accruals and debt.

With this latest win, Sembcorp’s gross renewables capacity in India has surpassed 7.6GW. Globally, its renewables portfolio stands at 20.1GW, including acquisitions pending completion.
