Waaree is scaling domestic storage manufacturing with a 4 GWh cell line and a 5 GWh packandcontainer facility, supporting utilityscale and C&I applications.

Mumbai-headquartered Waaree Group, India’s leading renewable energy solutions provider, has secured a 10 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) order from a key infrastructure development company to be deployed in Tamil Nadu.

Waaree is rapidly expanding domestic storage manufacturing, with a 4 GWh cell production line and a 5 GWh pack‑and‑container facility designed to support utility‑scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) applications. These integrated manufacturing strengths enable the company to deliver high‑quality, fully indigenous BESS solutions at scale.

Speaking on the order win, Ankit Doshi, President of Strategy, Waaree Group, said, “Storage is the next frontier for renewable power, and we are investing deeply in technology, design, and manufacturing to meet the nation’s growing demand for flexible, dispatchable energy. This project in Tamil Nadu reinforces our mission to build reliable, future‑ready solutions that strengthen grid stability and accelerate renewable adoption at scale.”

A critical enabler for India’s solar‑led growth, BESS ensures round‑the‑clock availability of renewable power, reducing curtailment and preventing solar assets from being underutilised. With more than 20 GW of wind and solar capacity, Tamil Nadu is actively scaling grid‑connected BESS to integrate variable generation.

The southern state recently issued a 1.5 GWh standalone BESS bid, signalling rapid deployment demand.

The National Electricity Plan (NEP), along with analyses by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Central Electricity Authority, has projected tens to hundreds of GWh of storage capacity will be required over the next decade, with a sharp ramp‑up expected from FY 2026-27 onwards.
