Bidding process for Navi Mumbai airport will be taken up by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) only after compÂleting the crucial land acquiÂsition process. But this could delay the project and further push up costs.Although the project receiÂved environmental cleaÂrance in November 2010, it has been stuck largely due to delays in land acquisition and lack of approval from the Centre for the issue of a formal Request for Qualification (RFQ) from biÂdders.
Chennai airport terminal
Opening of the new terminal building at Chennai airport gets further delayed. It may now be inaugurated by March 2013. Airport Director HS Suresh attributed the delay to the Civil Aviation MinistryÂ’s decision to wait until the installation of inline baggage screening systems and facilities like ATM kiosks and Forex counters.
Solar power at Delhi station
To power the premises of New Delhi railway station, the Delhi Division of Northern Railway is looking at the option of using solar energy. Under the pilot project, solar panel of 1 MW capacity will be installed in the non-utilised portion of the rooftop. Authorities highlighted the need to conserve energy and reduce the power bill of the station.
Land for cargo hub
Pune District Collector Vikas Deshmukh has instructed the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Pune, to submit a proposal for acquisition of land to develop a cargo hub and other infrastructure facilities near the Lohegaon airport. Deshmukh said that a survey was conducted recently and around eight acre (3.5 hectare) land near the airport was identified
