IRB Infrastructure Developers plans to claim a compensation of around Rs 60-70 crore from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for terminating its contract for a Goa road project after the latter could not acquire land for it. Road projects have faced delays due to issues relating to land acquisition, environmental clearances and right of way but this is only the second instance in the last two years where a project has been cancelled due to NHAI's inability to acquire land.

Solar Cities to be Developed
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy proposes to develop 60 cities as solar cities. So far,based on proposals received by the government from various sates, in-principle approval has been given to 48 cities to be developed as solar cities in the country. Out of these, 37 cities have been given the green light by the government.

Quick turnovers are not the salient feature of a vibrant economy alone, it seems. Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has seen turnovers of a different kind: four CMDs in two years. Rajeev Sharma takes over the reins from HD Khunteta who took over from JM Phatak only in May last year for a period of “three months or until further ordersâ€. He served for seven months, while Phatak was CMD for less than a year.

As airport security took centrestage in aviation after the 9/11 and other forms of terror attacks, Inderjit Singh says a national security infrastructure is now a pre-requisite to growth.Of the Rs 650,000 crore that the Indian government has budgeted in 2011-12 towards transportation, Rs 70,000 crore is budgeted for the development of greenfield airports and upgrade of existing airports and a major portion of it would be from the private sector, financial institutions and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
Shunglu report: Can SEBs finally breathe easier?
Under pressure from banks, who are refusing to lend, state utilities are poring over the new reports by Shunglu and BK Chaturvedi Committees. Is franchise the best way forward, though? At 31 percent, the national average on AT&C losses are unacceptably high. Quantified, this amounts to nearly Rs 70,000 crore of losses, and the Finance Commission fears that this amount will rise to Rs 1.16 lakh crore by 2014-15.
