Minister questions delay in Panipat-Jalandhar road project
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on August 1 questioned the inordinate and unexplained delay in completion of the six-laning project of the Panipat-Jalandhar national highway, which is the main cause of tragic accidents leading to many deaths. In a statement issued here, Tewari said most of the accidents along this stretch were taking place primarily because of incomplete roads.
Rain exposes quality of road works in Hubli
In Hubli, the recent rains have made the lives of vehicle-users and pedestrians miserable, thanks to the severe beating several roads have taken. Major roads in the city have either caved in or developed huge potholes, because of the poor quality of repair works.

Work on new bridge in Chennai nearing completion
In Chennai, the Anna Nagar link road project, which has been making a tardy progress over the past four years, finally seems to be heading towards completion with the construction of the bridge across the Uyyakondan river reaching the finishing stages. The link road will be completed in the next three months, sources said. The civic body has drawn much flak, from residents and the elected representatives over the execution of the project which has been progressing in fits and starts since 2009.
Haryana seeks Centre’s nod for 4 new road projects
For four new mega projects of road network and sewerage system for Faridabad, the Haryana government has sought Centre's nod. The project work

Govt eyes Rs 3,750 cr via 10 per cent stake sale in Indian Oil
The Union government, which holds 78.92 per cent stake in Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), will sell 10 per cent stake in IOC. Through the stake sale the government expects to garner around Rs 3,750 crore to the exchequer at the current market price. The Union Cabinet on August 1 cleared the proposal in this regard. Govt to raise Rs 350 cr via stake sale in NLC
The Union government's 3.56 per cent stake sale of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) through the institutional placement route was scheduled to hit the markets on August 2 and is expected to fetch around Rs 350 crore to the exchequer. The government is selling 3.56 per cent stake or over 5.58 crore shares in NLC through an institutional placement programme (IPP) in which the Tamil Nadu based state entities would be given preference while allotment of shares.
J&K govt to set up new cement plant in Khrew
To capture local market share for cement, the Jammu and Kashmir government will set up a cement plant with 1000 tonne per day capacity. The Government on July 31 decided to set up one more 1000 tonne per day cement plant in public sector over 12 hectares at the existing J&K Cements plant at Khrew in Pulwama, an official concerned said.

Coast Guard adds 4th Dornier to its aircraft fleet
To enhance its maritime surveillance capability over the coastal region in West Bengal and Odisha, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) North East Region on July 31 inducted a fourth Dornier aircraft under its operational air enclave in Kolkata. This is the fourth Dornier aircraft to be inducted into the enclave operated by the 700 Squadron of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The enclave operates from the Netaji Subhas International Airport in Kolkata. This was the first ICG air squadron in the country.
