Wartsila , a leading global supplier of power plant and ship power solutions and services, has signed a turnkey contract to supply a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal to be built in Tornio, northern Finland. The contract, valued at approximately EUR 100 million, has been made with Manga LNG Oy, a joint venture between the Finnish companies Outokumpu Group, Ruukki Metals Oy, Gasum Oy and EPV Energy.

BN Talukdar, Director for Exploration in Oil India (OIL), has been appointed the new Director General of Hydrocarbons (DGH). A petroleum engineering graduate from the prestigious Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Talukdar has been head of OILĆĀ“s exploration, development, reservoir management and drilling activities since December 2007. Prior to joining the Board, Talukdar held the post of Group General Manager (Geosciences) in the fields in the North-East India.?

Heinzmann to retrofit IR’s diesel locomotives
Heinzmann GmbH & Co has received a major order from Indian Rialways (IR) to retrofit an initial 40 diesel locomotives to run on natural gas. This minimises the diesel injection, which is only needed to ignite the gas-air mixture.
Berth No. 18 under construction at New Mangalore Port
Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) berth no. 13 was recently commissioned at New Mangalore Port to cater to the additional demand of the potential users. This berth has the cargo handling capacity to the tune of 7.8 MTPA. The construction of this berth had cost Rs 79.17 crore.

Hindsight: This was a reasonably good year for O&G in general, in particular for India. The government has performed very well. For the first time, it took some concrete and bold steps, and ensured deregulation of transportation and petrol, distinguished bulk from retail transport.
