With the starting of a coastal container service, connectivity between major ports in the East and West coasts linking ICTT Vallarpadam has become a reality. Shreyas Shipping Service has introduced Pan India Express, a bi-weekly service, by deploying a 1700 teu vessel connecting all the major East Coast ports to ICTT.

Adani port sets a new record in coal handling in India
Goutam Adani promoted Mundra port has created a national record on coal cargo handling to 151,229 metric tonnes of steam coal in 24 hours from MV Cape Fushen, Large Cape Vessel, carrying steam coal of Indonesian steam coal of Adani Power Limited (APL).
Vizag port takes up expansion at Rs 4,500 cr
To expand its cargo handling capacity, Visakhapatnam port plans to spend Rs 4,500 crore. The port's existing capacity is 65 million tonne (mtpa) and it plans to enhance it to 110 mtpa by 2015-16. The expansion plan includes setting up of 3-4 new berths besides modernising the existing berths towards fully mechanised ones.
Nod to licensing of land to developers of 4 major ports
The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal to license land to developers of projects at four major ports under public-private partnership (PPP) mode to strengthen the ports' capacity. It cleared one project on lease basis for setting up a cement bagging plant at Cochin Port.
Paradip port handles 21% more cargo in Aug
During the last August, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) handled 5.91 million tonne (mt) cargo of imports and exports, compared with 4.88 mt handled in the same month last year, registering a growth of 21.07 per cent. The August figure is also 13.29 per cent higher than the target fixed for the month. During the month, 2.42 mt cargo was exported and 3.49 mt was imported through the port.
New Mangalore port receives 9 bids for building new berth
Nine bids have been received by the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) for the construction of berth handling bulk cargo and containers. September 5 was the last date for submitting the bids. Nine companies have submitted the bids and the proposed berth will handle bulk cargo and containers.
VPT to set up a major port in Nellore district
With an investment of Rs 9,500 crore, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) will establish a major port at Duggarajupatnam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The exact location proposed for the port is at Duggarajupatnam, where four berths would be constructed. The site would be developed as a major port in the East Coast, VPT said in Visakhapatnam.
Kerala plans port at Vizhinjam, expects nod from Centre
For a proposed port at Vizhinjam in Kerala, the State government is awaiting the Central government's green signal, said the State Ports and Fisheries Minister K Babu. Near the famed tourist sport Kovalam, the Vizhinjam port has been planned by the State government.
Depreciation of Rupee hits port development: Vasan
The Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan recently said that the falling value of rupee will stroĂÂngly affect port development works in the country and its shipping industry. The present economic crisis in India has affected employment opportunities of even cadĂÂets trained at the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)-run Maritime Training Institute (MTI), the Minister added.
Boost to liquid cargo capacity at New Mangalore port
As the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) commissioning its single-point mooring (SPM) system
at New Mangalore Port last week, the port's liquid cargo handling has been boosted. Single point mooring is an offshore facility that serves as a mooring point for tankers to discharge their cargoes. For now, MRPL is served by two berths at the port to handle crude oil and petroleum products.
