Cargoes including iron ore shipments from AustraliaĂâs Port Hedland have increased to China in August. Hedland is worldĂâs biggest bulk terminal. In August, exports totaled 27.4 million tonne from 26.6 million tonne in July and 22.8 million tonne a year earlier.

NMPT registers a growth of 12.25% in cargo
In the first five months of 2013-14, the New Mangalore Port (NMPT) recorded a growth of 12.25 per cent in cargo handling. The port handled 15.76 million tonne of cargo from April-August as against 14.04 million tonne in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal (2012-13). Crude oil and coal contributed to the growth in port's cargo handled during the period, said the port's Chairman P Tamilvanan.
Stalling of Chennai port road project will impact TN: official
In Tamil Nadu, the Rs 1,815-crore Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated link road was conceived for speedy evacuation of containers from Maduravoyal and now it has been stalled by the State Public Works Department stating there was a deviation in the alignment from the approved project. Stopping of the project will have a very big impact on Tamil Nadu and the countryĂâs economy, cautioned Vijay Chhibber, Secretary, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Luggage scanner to function soon at Beypore port

TN halts work on useful Chennai port e’way
The Tamil Nadu government has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to hold the Rs 1,800 crore 19-km Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Elevated Express Corridor project as the NHAI has deviated from the approved alignment. The project is on hold since April 2012. Now, the port users say they will face huge hardships if Chennai Port-MaduraĂÂvoĂÂyal elevated corridor project is not implemented.
Dip in Cochin port July exports
Exports through the Cochin Port declined 10 per cent in July while imports rose 11.75 per cent, according to Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Cexports and imports statistics. July import of commodities, components and equipment through Cochin Port and Vallarpadam International Container Trans-shipment Terminal (ICTT) was 2.4 lakh tonne, compared to 2.1 lakh tonne in the previous-year month.
Jindal’s proposal to buy stake in Gopalpur port rejected
Odisha Commerce Minister Subrat Tarai has stated that the Odisha government on August 30 rejected a proposal by Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) to acquire 49 per cent stake in Gopalpur Ports (GPL) in the state. Citing the State's Law Department's report, he said that the Gopalpur port could not be transferred before its operation for at least three years.
