Odisha to come out with a solar policy in next two months
Targeting a generation of 50 MW of solar power within one year, Odisha government said its comprehensive solar policy would be in place in the next two months. The State Science and Technology Secretary DN Gupta said that private investors were interesĂÂted to put their money in the sector.
Bihar power corp to privatise distribution
Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (Pesu) has floated tenders to invite private players to bid for the distribution franchise in four towns of the state, including Patna. Bihar State Power Holding Company (BSPHCL) has completed the process of technical bidding for Muzaffarpur, Gaya and Bhagalpur towns as well.
GAIL revives pipeline project
GAIL India has revived the much delayed Rs 7,596 crore Jagdishpur-Haldia gas pipeline gas pipeline project. It is learnt that the groundwork for the project, which was sanctioned in 2007, is yet to start. The project was sanctioned almost five years ago. However, first a glitch over gas availability led to delay in execution.
BHEL starts steam turbine generator unit in Ethiopia
Government-owned BHEL said it has commissioned its first steam turbine and generator (STG) unit at a power plant in Ethiopia of Africa. The steam turbine generator set of 12 MW capacity has been commissioned at the Finchaa Sugar Factory for the plant's own use, it said.The company said that the plant will supply process steam and power to the sugar factory and the excess power will be supplied to the Ethiopian Electricity Power Company.
Suzlon's wind park in Kutch surpasses 1,000 MW
Suzlon Group's wind park in Kutch district of Gujarat has crossed 1,000 MW of installed capacity. This makes the company's Kutch wind park one of the largest of its kind in India. Suzlon currently has a total installed capacity of over 1,500 MW in Gujarat.Apart from Kutch, the company's other installations in the state are at Jamanagar, Porbandar, Rajkot and BhavĂÂnagar.
Chinnaswamy Stadium to be solar powered
On the lines of Germany's Freiburg football stadium, which is completely solar powered, the Karnataka government is planning to run M Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore by solar power, said Kaushik Mukherjee, Karnataka Additional Chief Secretary and Development CoĂÂmĂÂmissioner.
Welspun investment plans
Welspun Energy will make investments worth Rs 15,000 crore in the next three years for renewable energy capacities in India. The board of directors of the company has recently given its approval for the investment plans. Vineet Mittal, Co-founder and Managing Director, Welspun Energy said in Gandhinagar that the company has invested around Rs 3,500 crore for
power capacities in the renewable energy space.
Nalco's 2nd wind power project
National Aluminium Co (Nalco) is setting up its second wind power project of 50 MW capacity in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan at a cost of around Rs 190 crore. The public sector firm, which placed an order for the Rajasthan project to Gamesa, expects to operationalise the plant in the next seven months. The company's first wind power plant, of 50 MW capacity, at Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh was commissioned recently.
ONGC Tripura Power unit
The first unit of the 2x363.3 ONGC Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC) at Palatana in Tripura, which is on trial run, is set to start commercial operations by mid-February, provided the EPC contractor BHEL succeeds in stabilising the unit. OTPC is confident to offer adequate load to run the unit at full capacity as the transmission line from Palatana to Silchar in Assam already having been commissioned and on course to be extended up to Byrnihat in Meghalaya soon.
