The City Industrial and Development Corporation (CIDCO) has taken up a Rs 340 crore project for construction of road and improving infrastructure in and around the proposed airport in Navi Mumbai. It has plans to build a new road connecting the proposed airport with the Khandeshwar railway station to provide easy connectivity. The one-km, 60 m wide road will have three lanes on either side. It will start from the forecourt of the Khandeshwar station, cross the Gadhi river and end at the airport. However, the road will run through 1.27 hectares of mangrove land and will require clearance from the ministry of environment and forests.
The corporation will begin inviting tenders in June for the new airport. However, rehabilitation of families affected by the airport is yet to begin.
