Coal India’s cost to rise owing to diesel price hike

Minister of State of Coal Pratik Prakash Bapu Patil informed Rajya Sabha that the rise in petrol and diesel prices will impact the cost of coal production in the country.

The rise in diesel price would increase the cost of production of Coal India (CIL), which accounts for over 80 per cent of the domestic coal mining, by Rs 600 crore per annum.

Petrol price was hiked by Rs 1.40 per litre, while diesel prices for bulk consumers like Railways was increased by almost Re 1 per litre recently.

Patil said that a total of 187 forest clearance proposals (of Coal India)…are awaiting clearances at various levels and a total of 58 environmental clearance proposals… are awaiting clearances at various level.

The state-run coal miner, which missed its revised production target of 447 million tonne (mn t) last fiscal, has a number of its projects awaiting clearances from the environment ministry.
