Hindustan Zinc, part of the Vedanta Group, has come forward and built Udaipur´s fist sewage treatment plant (STP). The STP will treat 30 per cent of the sewage generated by the City of Lakes, which is a global tourist destination. On an average, Udaipur City generates about 70 million litres of sewage per day and cleaning it has been a challenge. Most of the sewage was finding its way to the lakes leading to contamination of water. Out of this, Hindustan Zinc Sewage Treatment Plant is treating 20 million litres per day.
