K Ravi, Managing Director, NCL Industries Limited, entered into the industry and started business much early, in his late teens when he was a student. That was the time when his father, Late Sri Kalidindi Ramachandra Raju (the founder of NCL Group) was making a transition from being an employee to an entrepreneur.
Ravi was an able lieutenant to his father. Ramachandra Raju embarked on a pioneering venture in 1979 to establish one of the earliest mini cement plants in the country. Ravi joined him in the effort. He honed his skills in the technical and commercial aspects of the industry by working in various capacities at the factory and office.
Ravi pursued his studies in Electrical Engineering at Hyderabad with specialisation in power stations network and systems. With an urge to foray into power sector, Ravi started NCL Energy Limited in 1998 and completed two mini hydel projects. While few more projects were in the pipeline for execution, Ravi came back to NCL Industries as Managing Director in 2003 upon the retirement of Ramachandra Raju. Later, NCL Energy was merged with NCL Industries Limited. NCL has posted an impressive growth during the period of Ravi’s stewardship. In 2009-2010, NCL was adjudged as the best performing industry in mid-cap sector and received award from All India Manufacturers Association.
Ravi has a reputation for being a manager with exacting standards. He demands, recognises and rewards high performance from his executives. At the same time, he takes keen interest in the welfare activities for his employees.
Known to be a workaholic, his only concession to relaxation is Golf – a pastime he indulges in free weekends.
