Cargo handling comes to a halt at Paradip port
A dispute between two stevedore companies at Paradip Port lead to a grinding halt of cargo handling at Paradip Port. Due to the cargo halt, around 700 iron-ore laden trucks were stranded on the busy 65-km stretch of NH-5(A) from Balichandrapur to the port town.
Paradip Port surpasses Visakhapatnam in cargo handling
In cargo handling, Odisha's Paradip Port has gained a lead over Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), Which had a record of handling the largest volume of cargo in the East Coast. Paradip Port has handled an additional five million tonne of cargo in this current year.
NMPT achieves 15.8% in cargo handling in H1
In the first six months of the current fiscal, the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has recorded a growth of 15.78 per cent in cargo handling. The port handled 19.37 million tonne of cargo during April-September of 2013-14, against 16.73 million tonne in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, the port said.
NMPT registers a growth of 12.25% in cargo
In the first five months of 2013-14, the New Mangalore Port (NMPT) recorded a growth of 12.25 per cent in cargo handling. The port handled 15.76 million tonne of cargo from April-August as against 14.04 million tonne in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal (2012-13). Crude oil and coal contributed to the growth in port's cargo handled during the period, said the port's Chairman P Tamilvanan.
Fall in Vizag port cargo handling in current fiscal
Visakhapatnam port's cargo handling has come down by by 1 million tonne during the current financial year compared to last year. The port Chairman GVL Satya Kumar attributed the dip in the cargo handling to fall in intake of iron ore by China, government restrictions on iron ore mining and slump in transshipment of petroleum products and crude during the year.
Cabinet clears Rs 17 bn second dock project
Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan informed that the cabinet cleared the proposed Rs 1,700-crore second dock complex project at Haldia recently.
