Following delays, the total cost of NHPC´s Subansiri project in Assam is likely to be around Rs 12,000 crore, nearly double than envisaged initially. The original cost of the project was Rs 6,285 crore. NHPC is executing the 2,000-mw Subansiri hydel plant in Assam. Sources in NHPC said that local issues, contractual issues, geological surprises, delay in decision making and poor risk-taking assessment have impacted the progress on the Subansiri project.

the present 4,780 MW is achievable.
Solar desalination plant
World´s largest solar-powered desalination plant is being planned by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The proposed plant would process more than 22 million gallons of potable water per day, according to reports. UAE said that the solar-powered new plant at Ras Al Khaimah emirate would also generate 20 MW of electricity.
Solar power in 2014
A report by Mercom Capital Group says that India is projected to see a solar power generation capacity addition of 1,750 MW next year. Noting that new solar installations so far this year have been around 900 MW, Mercom on 20 November stated that India is not likely to register any significant year-over-year growth for 2013. However, during this period, global solar market is estimated to see 20 per cent growth.
Cheyyur power project
The Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has stated that eight companies have evinced interest in developing Rs 24,200-crore Cheyyur ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Tamil Nadu. The UMPP is India´s first coastal power plant, to be bid out with an attached captive port. PFC is the nodal agency for UMPPs
Solar power metering
Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has invited suggestions and feedback from stakeholders on a proposal to introduce net metering for rooftop solar power generation as per guidelines laid down by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The commission claims that, with about 300 sunny days in Delhi a year and around 30 lakh households, Delhi has more than 700 sq km of built-up area for installation of photo-voltaic systems.

The government´s move comes after private investors showed disinterest in the road projects this year. For its expressway projects worth over Rs 30,000 crore and 15 other highway projects in the pipeline, the Ministry is looking to engage the industry bodies and IFC.
