According to officials, the Indian Railways (IR) will provide 20 non-air conditioned coaches fitted with solar panels to Kangra Valley and Kalka-Shimla sections of Himachal Pradesh on a trial basis.

Surat moving towards a solar city
Surat city will start producing nearly 3.35 lakh units of solar power per annum from April. Solar roof top panels with a capacity of generating 1,250 kW are functional at 15 places.
60 MW power from rooftops
Within the next three years, the Gujarat government plans to generate 60 MW power from rooftops of over 30,000 houses. Apart from houses, solar panels of about 20 mw capacity will be laid on the Narmada irrigation canal and solar-power high-speed pumps will be provided to farmers for irrigation in Gujarat.
