The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is learnt to have sent a team of officials to identify land for the proposed oil depot project in Una district of Himachal Pradesh.
The company plans to set up the depot in Una district after the proposed depot project at Kadd village was shelved.
It is learnt that the local administration is looking out for a 50-acre plot in Pubowal village in Haroli block of the district for the project.
IOC cancelled the depot project at Kadd village after the the locals demanded employment for their youth in the corporation in lieu of transferring the government land for the project.
Pubowal village is expected to be suitable for the project once it gets rail connectivity. It is learnt that the government plans to extend the Hoshiarpur-Jaijon broad gauge line to link it with the Tahliwal industrial area in Una, which is close to Pubowal.
Though this rail line did not find any mention in the recent rail budget, a team of officials from the Ambala divisional railways office had recently surveyed the Tahliwal-Jaijon area.
IOC operated an LPG bottling plant at Raipur Sahoran village near Mehatpur, which is on the broad gauge rail network.
