Designed to identify and train highpotential students, the programme prepares marketready aircraft maintenance engineers to meet the surging demand of Indias aviation sector.

The InterGlobe Group‑promoted School for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (SAME) has been selected by IndiGo as the official training partner for its pioneering cadet AME programme. This specialised pathway is designed to identify, train, and prepare high‑potential students to become market‑ready aircraft maintenance engineers, addressing the escalating demand in India’s booming aviation sector.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by passenger traffic and fleet size, is operated by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., a publicly listed company promoted by InterGlobe Enterprises. The rapid growth in passenger traffic and aircraft induction has created an urgent need for technically skilled, DGCA‑licensed professionals. The cadet AME program directly addresses this gap by creating a structured, high‑performance talent pipeline.

Cadets will undergo rigorous screening, theoretical instruction, and practical workshop training at SAME’s facilities, followed by actual environment training (AET) at IndiGo’s maintenance bases. The curriculum emphasises aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) modules, regulatory compliance, and technical accuracy.

Aditya Pande, Group CEO, InterGlobe Enterprises, said, “India’s massive aircraft orders require an equally robust workforce of competent Aircraft Maintenance Engineers. Our collaboration with IndiGo is a strategic step towards building this critical talent pool.”

Parichay Datta, Senior Vice President, Engineering, IndiGo, added, “Our collaboration with SAME to launch the Cadet AME Program is both timely and strategic. This initiative will play an important role in building a sustainable talent pipeline, developing highly skilled, industry‑ready aviation maintenance professionals who will, in time, form the backbone of IndiGo’s expansion and contribute meaningfully to the broader development of India’s aviation ecosystem.”

IndiGo plans to induct 900 new aircraft over the next decade, making this program vital for sustaining its expansion. SAME will select 30 cadets in the Category B1.1 (aeroplanes turbine) stream from its 2026-27 intake, with successful graduates offered employment as junior cadet AMEs.
