Gautam Adani : promoted Mundra port has created a national record on coal cargo handling to 151,229 metric tonnes of steam coal in 24 hours from MV Cape Fushen, Large Cape Vessel, carrying steam coal of Indonesian steam coal of Adani Power Limited (APL).
According to a company release the Port's West Basin terminal, Asia's largest coal import facility, surpassed the last recorded best coal discharge performance nationally of 122,247 metric tonnes and further surpassed its own record of 115,119 metric tonnes in January 2012. The current handling capacity of west port is 60 MMT of coal per annum.
“This is a great milestone for Mundra port and the credit goes to our state of the art mechanized automated safe facilities and to our young employees who have toiled day and night to ensure that West Basin emerges as the best coal import terminal in the world. It is designed to handle coal that can feed most of the Indian power plants and therefore play an important role in the country's power generation,” said Mr G J Rao, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd.
Mundra Port is today India's number one multi-cargo port and has an annual handling capacity of 180 million tones. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone also operates ports in Hazira and Dahej, in Gujarat and is setting up coal handling facilities in Mormugao in Goa, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and at Kandla Port in Gujarat, the release added.
