Kolkata Port negotiates with 2 bidders
RPS Kahlon, Chairman of the Kolkata Port Trust informed that the port was negotiating with the two lowest bidders to reduce the bids for operating two berths at Haldia Dock Complex (HDC). Mumbai civic body to probe CAG’s claims in road projects
The Mumbai Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will conduct an internal inquiry into the increase in cost of road projects in the city, as pointed out by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. In its report, the CAG had also criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for increasing spending an additional Rs 702 crore of taxpayersÂ’ money without following procedure.
Green tribunal stays Delhi road widening over tree felling
The National Green Tribunal has ordered an interim stay on PWD's road-widening project along the Andheria Mod-Mahipalpur stretch, where trees were found to be felled illegally. On March 18, a bench headed by NGT Chairman Justice Swatanter Kumar, asked the Delhi government, the Forest Department and PWD to not fell any tree except in cases where permission from the department concerned has been obtained till the next date of hearing.
Rs 20k cr worth stranded road projects to get nod
As the Union Environment Ministry is set to give its clearances to a clutch of stranded highway projects in one go, work could soon begin with a combined investments of over Rs 20,000 crore. The MinistryÂ’s blanket approval is enabled by its decision to de-link the environment and forest clearances (EC and FC) for road projects, as per a recent Supreme Court directive.
Mumbai’s FOB to make way for Sahar elevated road
In yet another example of poor planning by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the Santa Cruz foot overbridge (FOB) on the Western Express Highway (WEH) will have to be demolished to make way for the new Sahar elevated road, which will connect the airport and the highway. To put it simply, the cost of the project will now increase manifold, as it will include the costs involved in demolishing the existing FOB and the construction of a new one.
AP faces power crisis due to faulty policy: Experts
Experts say that the crisis in the power sector is due to faulty government policy and unfair pricing. The opinion was the upshot of the debate by experts who were speaking at a seminar on ‘Power Crisis in Andhra Pradesh and Challenges’, organised by the Neelam Rajashekhara Reddy Research Centre on March 17. They pointed out that it was the State government that had brought about the financial mess by not paying dues of Rs 25,000 crore to the discoms.
