Construction of Balipara-Tawang road to be ready by 2016

The road from Tezpur to Balipara (20 Km) in Assam is already double-laned and double laning of the stretch from Balipara to Tawang (317.52 Km) is under progress by Border Roads Organisation (BRO), said the Union Defence Minister AK Antony in the Lok Sabha recently. The probable date of completion of the road Balipara-Charduwar-Tawang to National Highway Double Lane (NHDL) specifications is March 2016, he added.

Orissa’s Berhampur to get a 52-km ring road

To ease traffic problem in Berhampur, the Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) has proposed construction of a ring road, a bypass and an internal bypass in different locations. The decision was taken at the development authority meeting held in the town on March1. The proposed 52-km ring road will cover Ragunathpur, Ratanapur, Digapahandi Road, Chikiti Road, Haladiapadar, National Highway 5, Korapalli, University Road, Golabandh Gate and Ragunathpur.

Residents of Modasa in Gujarat stall low quality road work

In Gujarat, construction of the Modasa-Malpur road was stalled for a prolonged time on March 1 after local residents near the Malpur road by-pass protested against the poor quality bitumen used in the construction. The road is being constructed by the State Roads and Buildings Department. The 25-km road, leading to Sekong village from Richukrong, a remote circle, was constructed by the Rural Works Department, Seppa with an estimated cost of Rs 19 crore.

With the government withdrawing Kingfisher Airlines' international flying rights and domestic slots, the Jet Airways has approached the Aviation Ministry to acquire six of the vacant slots. The airline company has applied to the government to acquire six slots from Mumbai. Of these, it is looking at four domestic and two international routes, Jet Airways sources said in Mumbai.
