Coal projects face obstacles
The country’s increasing energy needs are being hampeÂred by regulatory delays for coal mining projects. India could import around 250 million tonne of coal a year by 2015, more than double import levels this year, says Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal.
NMDC stake in Sunflag
NMDC has signed an initial agreement with Sunflag Iron & Steel Co to acquire a 26 percent stake in a Mozambique coal project.The pact with Sunflag forms part of NMDC's plan to invest in coking coal and iron ore assets overseas to propel its iron ore and upcoming steel projects.
VOC Port's e-sail initiative
The VOC Port has selected Chennai based L&T Infotech for implementation of a Rs 19.75 crore web-enabled integrated electronic port information system.
NH 56 development
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) has approved the implementation of the project of four laning of Lucknow-Sultanpur section from 11.5 km to 134.7 km on NH 56 in Uttar Pradesh under NHDP Phase IV A to be executed in BOT mode on DBFOT basis.
Reliance Power project gets approval for carbon credits
Reliance Power said its 3,960 MW Tilaiya ultra mega power project in Jharkhand has got approval for carbon credits from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).Reliance Power's Tilaiya UMPP would earn Rs 2,000 crore by trading carbon credits during the first 10 years of its operations, the company said.
GVK arm bags highway project in MP
GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd has announced that GVK Transportation Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary, has been chosen through an international competitive bidding process to take up the four-laning of Shivpuri-Dewas section of National Highway No 3 in Madhya Pradesh.
$750-mn ADB loan for Powergrid project
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will extend a loan of $750 million for the national power transmission improvement project of Power Grid Corporation of India. The loan will finance the project for bulk transmission of 3,000 MW of electricity from independent power producers in Chhattisgarh to areas in the north, including Delhi.
NHPC to raise Rs 2,000-cr debt
NHPC will raise Rs 2,000 crore debt in the next five months by issuing bonds and term loans in the domestic market. The debt was required to fund the company's plans to add 678 MW in the current financial year.
20 bidders for Orissa's UMPP
All the 20 power companies, including Tatas, NTPC and Lanco, which had submitted bids for the 4,000 MW ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Orissa are believed to have qualified for the second round, which starts in October.
