The Union government on May 23 approved the 4-laning of Dimapur-Kohima National Highway in Nagaland at a total cost of Rs 1,089.87 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the implementation of the project of 4-laning of the Dimapur-Kohima section from 124.1 km to 172.9 km of NH-39, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said in Delhi. This project is under the special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in North Eastern Region, he said.

Building of rural roads saw ten-fold jump: UPA eport
The Union government has stated that investment in road construction in rural areas saw a ten-fold jump under the United Progressive Alliance's (UPA's) regime. The government rolled out more than 20,100 all-weather roads across the nation last year, a report by the government said projecting a rosy picture of the sector, which is battling with scores of problems like equity crunch, delays in clearances and land acquisition besides major players abandoning projects mid-way.
NHAI not in favour of PPP mode for road projects
Media reports say that the National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) plea to the government to improve financing provisions for highways project has not worked so far. Recently, 19 high projects were bid out, but there were no takers and NHAI now believes that conditions for public-private partnership (PPP) projects are not right.
Jamshedpur’s key road project to begin on PPP model
In Jharkhand's Jamshedpur, the Eastern Road Corridor Project would soon begin on a public private partnership (PPP) with Jharkhand government and Tata Steel as participants. The State Chief Secretary RS Sharma, who chaired a high-level meeting comprising officials from both the State government and Tata Steel major in Ranchi, said the project should start soon in the industrial city to ease traffic with Ranchi and other neighbouring states, the release said quoting him.
BMC’s plan to let locals park on one side of road
A new parking policy for Mumbai is being brought out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under which BMC plans to give permits to local residents to park vehicles on road. The BMC is compiling a list of roads where residents can park vehicles on one side of the road. They will then be given annual permits allowing them to park their cars there; no other vehicle can park on these roads. The BMC also plans to introduce barcodes on permits for on-street parking to help the traffic polic
