A facelift is to be given to the Annai Indira Gandhi Bridge, or the Pamban road bridge that connects the mainland to the island town of Rameswaram. As part of silver jubilee year of the the bridge, the facelift is being planned at a cost of Rs 18.57 crore. Renovation work on the 2.345-km-long bridge, inaugurated by the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on October 2, 1988, was heralded by special puja and prayers during Wednesday and Thursday.

NHAI to award 4,000 km of roads in FY14
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to award up to 4,000 km of roads through EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contracts in 2013-14, largely to overcome the funding issues in the BOT ̉̉ build, operate and transfer ̉̉ contracts. The authority still has to chart a plan for the BOT segment that generated a meek response from the companies.
GMR wants to resume highway project, offers guarantee
A fresh offer has been said to be offered by GMR Infrastructure for restarting work on India's largest road project, the 555-km-long Kishangarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway. The company has told the Road Transport Ministry that it will provide a corporate guarantee of Rs 4,256 crore in exchange for reduction in the annual upfront payment.
