To strengthen its exploration and production portfolio, Cairn India is exploring opportunities to buy gas and oil blocks. The acquisitions would be funded by the earnings from its Rajasthan assets. By 2015-16, the company plans to spend $3 billion and is hopeful of a production of 225,000 boepd overall by 2013-14.

Power Grid to take up 4 projects
To launch four power projects, Indian government-owned Power Grid Corporation is to invest Rs 2,820.04 crore. The power transmission major would invest Rs 1,364.52 crore in 'Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme-V' project, with commissioning expected in 30 months, the company said in a regulatory filing on October 30.

The first unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) is now generating about 200 MW, states a Power System Operation Corporation (PSOC) report. the KNPP's first unit, which was on a test run, generated 165 MW. Ten-year plan ready for Bihar power transmission

Power from waste
By setting up solid waste management plants, the Gujarat government will run a pilot project in 50 cities to generate power, fertiliser and reusable water, said the state Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The state's rural areas will get the power, reusable water and fertilisers produced in these plants for usage in agriculture. Gujarat government will work with Japanese agencies for development of some of these plants by utilising cutting edge technology from Japan, the CM added.

Tata Power is setting up 160 MW wind projects throughout the country. Tata Power already has an installed wind energy generation capacity of 398 MW with projects across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
