In the last fiscal, the South Central Railways has achieved an eight per cent increase in freight loading due to increased movement of coal and fertilisers. The zone handled 111.5 million tonne of cargo during the year against 103.2 mt in the previous year.
The earnings from freight touched Rs 7,468 crore, accounting for 74 per cent of its total earnings for the year.
Coal loading registered an increase of 17 per cent due to increased production by Singareni Collieries. The zone handled 62.5 mt of coal, which accounted for 56 per cent of its total freight loading.
The off-take of coal from Singareni stood at 32.6 mt during the year against 30.3 mt in the previous year.
