Govt takes steps to boost coal output
The union government has envisaged that one of the ways forward to reduce the dependence on imports is to devise a Public Private Partnership (PPP) policy framework with CIL as one of the partners in order to increase the production of coal for supply to power producers and other consumers. Govt told to make CIL produce coal at allotted mines
Perturbed over the slow pace of development at 119 mines allocated to Coal India, a Parliamentary panel has asked the government to 'act swiftly' and ensure that CIL starts production there. With such a slow pace of work, the committee are unable to understand when the actual production from these coal blocks allocated to CIL will be started, the Standing Committee on Coal and Steel said in its report tabled in Parliament on April 24.
Govt asks CIL to sign supply pacts with power firms
The Union Coal Ministry has asked Coal India (CIL) to sign fuel supply pacts with the power generation companies, including NTPC, before finalising power purchase agreements with them.
