Dighi Port to handle ethylene
Dighi Port is in discussions with IPCL to handle ethylene shipment, which is being currently managed from the JNPT near Mumbai. As of now, the port has one operational berth with a keel-length of 650 m that can accommodate three large ships, including the Panamax types, at a time.
MoS to launch new port projects worth Rs 13,700 cr
The Ministry of Shipping (MoS) has drawn up another ambitious aim to award over 35 ventures worth over Rs 13,700 crore and plans to add about 259 million tonne (mt) capacity this year.

Although the concept of green ports is emerging as a necessary infrastructure solution for ports worldwide, India has to first step up its levels of cargo handling efficiency and logistics connectivity with the hinterland before it can match international standards in the 'greening' processes.
Tech, manpower, containerisation boost efficiency
Experts say that while it may be unfair to compare one port's efficiency level with another's, internal factors like the level of investment in mechanisation, and others including containerisation and availability of skilled labour are impacting port operations.

JNPT in the process of selecting firm for Rs 80 bn project
Recently, the authority of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) opened the request for qualifications for the Rs 8,000-crore fourth container terminal project. JNPT plans to set up the fourth terminal with a capacity of 2.4 million TEUs or standard truck units and a berth of 2 km, making it among the biggest in the countr
